Tours of the Tales

Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, 330 Ellis Street (northwest corner of Ellis and Taylor streets)

Glide Memorial was the model for Glibb Memorial Church – Mona’s church in Tales of the City.  The preacher, Willy Sessums, was modeled on the Rev. Cecil Williams, who at the time of Tales was Glide Memorial’s pastor.  He is now the Founder and Minister of Liberation at Glide.

In August 2013, the intersection of Ellis and Taylor Streets in front of the church was renamed “Rev. Cecil Williams Way” in honor of Reverend Williams.
