Tours of the Tales

Afternoon Tour Option A:

Telegraph Hill

Armistead Maupin lived at several locations on Telegraph Hill.  Three of them are included in this tour.  Armistead drew upon his repeated residencies on Telegraph Hill for various story lines in his books.

For example, Olin L. Cobb, a former merchant marine who lived in a hidden lean-to at Telegraph Hill’s sea wall, was the initial inspiration for “Luke” in Further Tales of the City.  As you descend Telegraph Hill, you’ll read more about the personal connection between Telegraph Hill and Maupin as well as his tales.
